Collection: Allene Collection

When you envision a tropical paradise the images more than likely include long sandy beaches, breath-taking sunsets, large palm trees swaying in the breeze and a refreshing cocktail in your hand.

Some cultures call the coconut tree the ‘tree of life’ because of its many uses

We decided to call our coconut shell scented candle collection Allene, as it means ‘precious’ in Hawaiian. We think this is a perfect name as the coconut was truly that to the ancient Hawaiian people, the whole of the coconut – or ‘nui’ in Hawaiian, had a variety of different uses+. The fibres from the husks of the coconuts were used to make ropes, the leaves were used for weaving, the shells themselves were used to make toys, musical instruments and used for fertilizer. The meat and the water were used in Hawaiian cooking. We like ours in a Blue Hawaiian cocktail or in the traditional Hawaiian desert Haupia !

Interestingly, the coconut is not actually a nut, but a fruit and is rich in many health benefits.

Today, coconuts are getting more popular in everyday culture, from use as a gluten free flour to reusable cutlery.

The distinctive brown coconut shell provides a beautiful, natural, and aesthetically pleasing candle vessel and can be used for many things after the candle has all been used up. We like to put plants in ours.
